Salt Lake City, UT — Utah Music Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships to musical students from Utah communities, is thrilled to announce Brighten Goold as the recipient of the 2025 Carolyn Reid Ogden piano scholarship.
Brighten is a 2025 graduate of Richfield High School in Richfield, Utah and will be attending Snow College. “Receiving the Carolyn Reid Ogden scholarship means so much to me. I love her example of service through music, and have felt the same joy in my life,” says Ms. Goold. “I have been a student of music since kindergarten when I started the violin. I soon discovered that I loved playing the piano as well. A highlight for me has been this past year as I tried something new by recording myself on the piano so that I could accompany myself on the violin. It was a challenge to put it together but I loved how immersed I became in the music as I tried to perfectly learn how the piano and violin parts fit together. I am excited to use this scholarship to further my abilities and continue to uplift those around me by sharing my talents with them as I both accompany and perform the piano. ”
This $500 scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s involvement in piano, a recorded performance, and a brief essay. This short essay invites students to reflect on piano has influenced their lives and how they will be involved in piano going forward.
This scholarship is made possible through generous contributions from the family and friends of Carolyn Reid Ogden. The creation of a piano scholarship in her name is a fitting tribute to her life's work and a testament to the immeasurable impact she had on those around her.
