Salt Lake City, UT — Utah Music Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships to musical students from Utah communities, is thrilled to announce Ava Lamb as the recipient of the 2023 Carolyn Reid Ogden piano scholarship. Ava is a 2023 graduate of North Sanpete High School in Mount Pleasant, Utah and will be attending Snow College this fall.

Ava Lamb has always loved music, but her love for the piano is something she deeply cherishes. She has played the piano for 13 years, and has participated in National Music Associations Piano festival for 12 years earning straight superiors as well as her 60pt cup this year. Ava has been very involved with her school's music department. She has been the pianist for the jazz band all four years, a member of the percussion ensemble for two, and a member of the choir for three, acting as the alto section leader two of those. Ava is a student body officer at her school and has enjoyed every opportunity to represent her school at multiple music-related activities.

“To the family of Carolyn Reid, I would just like to say thank you. When I came across this scholarship and read the biography, I just felt like I needed to apply. I felt like I could relate a lot to her music experiences a lot as I've participated in many similar ones. Carolyn sounded like such a wonderful lady, and I am honoured that I have been chosen to be a recipient of her love of the piano.”

This $500 scholarship was awarded based on the applicant’s involvement in piano, a recorded performance, and a brief essay. This short essay invites students to reflect on piano has influenced their lives and how they will be involved in piano going forward.

This scholarship is made possible through generous contributions from the family and friends of Carolyn Reid Ogden. The creation of a piano scholarship in her name is a fitting tribute to her life's work and a testament to the immeasurable impact she had on those around her.
