Salt Lake City, UT — Utah Music Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships to musical students from Utah communities, is proud to offer a new band scholarship to honor beloved Utah Band educator Steve Shirts. This $500 scholarship will be offered to Utah high school seniors with a background in band and will honor Steve Shirts.

“Steve Shirt’s impact on the lives of countless students and fellow musicians is immeasurable. The creation of a band scholarship in his name is a fitting tribute to his life's work and a testament to the incredible impact he had on his students,” says Tim Eaton, President and Founder of Utah Music Foundation. “We are grateful for Steve’s contribution to the Utah music community and are thrilled to honor him by offering a scholarship named after him.”

One $500 scholarship will be awarded based on the student’s involvement in band and a brief essay. This short essay will invite students to reflect on how music, and specifically their participation in band has impacted their life and how band will be a part of their life going forward. The application process is open now at www.utahmusicfoundation.org and concludes March 31. The scholarship winner will be announced later this spring.
